There is a saying that the more you know the less you know. Therefore, the reality is, I don't know what I am doing with search and search engines, I blog by the seat of my pants, I am not an authority, I have no answers to these 5 questions. Help.
Can you help please? Over the course of running this blog on search and search engines,I surf around the web on a manic voyage of self-discovery in order to better pass on what I have learnt. I come across concepts and points that I don't fully understand. For the most part I try to find the answer myself, googling like a good 'un, scratching my skull, convincing myself that it must be so easy I can't see the point... but here are a few questions that have been niggling away at my gray cells, driving me nuts. Do you know the answers?
What does it mean? "companies will keep buying up their own search terms" I understand the words, but what is the search marketing concept being referred to here? Taken from this post on search engines and search marketing in Canada by Techvibes.
Why do some affiliate marketing companies not accept new blogs? Surely there is no extra work for them, and from little acorns large oaks grow...
What is the general dynamic behind why Feedburner subscriber numbers fluctuate daily? Is it the title of the content you post, or the schedule of your subscribers, or just the way it is, get over it?
Why is there such a discrepancy between Awstats and Google Analytics visitor numbers? Surely a visitor is a visitor is a statistic that could earn you money?
Does Google place all labels and tags from Wordpress etc in the Supplemental Index, or is it just an incestuous anti-Blogger thing?
Any constructive input would put me (and plenty of readers too, I suspect) on the right track with a fuller appreciation of the search world. If that isn't incentive enough, I will of course be your grateful beeyatch for life.

Hi Ed,
I will answer those that I can.
1. Buying Search term.
It's called anchored keyword. For example, I could use Watch free movies legally(and make money too). This way, if someone search for that term in Google and I have the most anchored keyword, I would be at the top for that keyword thus more targeted visitor.
2. Don't like new blogs
My guest is they want serious bloggers with real content thus creating a relationship on the long run. Plus, most bloggers quit after 3 months and might not want to waist time with them before they proved themself. You could buy a pre-owned domain(2 year) and create older post if you really want to get in.
3. Feedburner
From the top of my head, it's calculate based on when it's access. A reader could be out of town a few days thus not reading the feed.
4. Awstats vs Google Analytics
Since GA is code that you add, it may not be "executed" if a visitor stop loading the page. That's why it's best to place it near the body of the page. It gives you more chances. ;) That's one reason and others may exist.
5. Labels
I don't know.
Btw, I just subscribe to this feed.
Thanks for the link a few post past. :D
Hey Steve, thanks for subscribing, and thanks for taking time out from watching free movies legally to provide your insights.
I am still not clear though with the anchored keyword explanation. Where does "buying a search term" fit into the equation? Is this some way to game Adsense, or what?
I understand that most blogs fail quite quickly, but maybe if these affiliate companies were more supportive at the start, bloggers may feel less inclined to give up?
I will check out where the Google Analytics code is placed. You reckon the higher up the html page, the more it will be activated?
cool, and I appreciate your perspective. Lets see what other gems are posted on this new blog (doomed to fail in 3 months?)
cheers
Ed
Hi again, Ed.
1. Instead getting anchor keywords by themself, they buy them. It save them time that way.
It's not gaming Adsense but Google in search result(first page). If you have an Adsense site, then the more chance you have to get "clicks" on those ads.
2. Even if they would let them in, most blogger in it for the money(affiliate) first want "instant results" which it's hard and take time. On my blog, I have a few affiliate sales per month. That's because I did not sold my soul and promote anything. That's even true in the last year.
For example, I'm #2 for a certain keyword. I could had used their affiliate program and sold many services. Since my result were negative, I reported that in my review.
3. Put the code after the a BODY tag. I tied earlier but blogger don't allow tags in the comments.
4. Doomed? Since it's not your first blog, you know how it works so you will go beyond 3 months perhaps 4 months ;)
I'm still blogging because I don't put pressure on myself to come up with new content every day. My average post is 515 words(Blog Metrics plugin).
